A Special Evening in Ocala
Featuring Curt LoPresti at the MAPA Safety Foundation PPP
Our recent MAPA Safety Foundation PPP event in Ocala was more than just a training weekend — it was a celebration of aviation history, family legacy, and the passion that brings the Mooney community together.
We were deeply honored to welcome Curt LoPresti, son of Roy LoPresti — widely regarded as the father of the Mooney 201. Curt delivered a heartfelt and fascinating presentation about his family’s journey in aviation, sharing personal stories, behind-the-scenes insights, and the innovation that helped shape one of the most iconic aircraft in general aviation.
For PPP attendees, it was a rare opportunity to connect directly with the legacy behind an airplane that continues to define efficiency, performance, and aerodynamic excellence.

A Memorable PPP Weekend
The MAPA Safety Foundation’s Pilot Proficiency Program (PPP) is designed to sharpen skills, increase safety, and build confidence — and this Ocala event did exactly that.
In addition to outstanding classroom and flight training, the weekend included:
-
A special keynote presentation from Curt LoPresti
-
A beautifully hosted banquet for attendees and guests
-
Stories of engineering breakthroughs and Mooney heritage
-
Fellowship among dedicated Mooney pilots
Honoring the Legacy Behind the Mooney 201
Roy LoPresti’s aerodynamic refinements helped transform the Mooney line into one of the most respected high-performance singles in aviation. Through Curt’s storytelling, attendees gained a deeper appreciation for the innovation, persistence, and craftsmanship that continue to influence Mooney aircraft today.
Events like this are what make the MAPA Safety Foundation PPP unique — combining world-class proficiency training with meaningful connections to the history and people behind the airplanes we fly.
